Hello Del Mar Scenester.
As always, I hope you are well.
Phew, what an incredible couple of weeks. While my liver's on ice, let's recap...
OPENING DAY
Powered by the X1FM.com network, we provided the first LIVE webcast in Del Mar Race Track history. Perched above the paddock, The Chris Cantore Show's opening day broadcast included beautiful people, retired jockeys, the red bull air team, handicappers, enormous hats, and, uhm, cleavage.
After the broadcast (and a couple of Del Margarita shakers,) we took our cameras into the crowd and produced the following video. NOTE: before you hit play, if you work in a conservative environment, this video is not "office safe."
GAVIN ROSSDALE
After spending a day at the Del Mar Race Track with his son, Kingston and 8 1/2 month pregnant wife, Gwen "something"...
Mr. Rossdale delivered a SOLID rock show to kick-off the Del Mar Summer Concert series. The setlist consisted of Bush songs intermixed with songs off his latest solo endeavor, Wanderlust. In addition to capturing live footage and gathering questions from Gavin groupies, I had a chance to sit down with Rossdale in the Green Room...which, like most Green Rooms', isn't green.
Now, for the gavin video...
SUPER DIAMOND
What a great, sloppy time. Super Diamond = Super Party.
Initially, with video crew in tow, I set out to embark on a "cougar hunt"...but, came up empty-handed. Don't get me wrong, there were packs of "cougars" (older women preying on younger dudes) at Super Diamond, but the segment quickly turned into "Hey, I'm drunk, now put me on camera and let me make an asshat out of myself by singing Neil Diamond songs out-of-tune."
Video to be posted soon...
Also, caught up with Surreal Neil prior to the show. Note: he is NOT the same dude that you see on stage. Simply, super shy, super mellow, and super sweet...like a Neil Diamond ballad. Alright, that was super lame.
GNARLS BARKLEY
The morning of the beer fest/Gnarls Barkley, I was asked to appear on FOX-6 morning news at 8 a.m. No problem, except I had a few too many adult beverages the night before at Super Diamond. Thankfully, I was given a case of Blue Moon to take the set...or, hair of the dog. The Fox-6 morning host, Anita (great eyes,) was a little surprised when I started drinking on camera...
Following the news appearance, I slept off my hangover and returned to the track for...well, the beer fest...and, Gnarls Barkley. The Soul Machine and Danger Mouse, or Gnarls, performed to a PACKED house and delivered a solid show. Unfortunately, because the Gnarls Barkley road crew were a bunch of horse's asses (crazy,) we were unable to capture quality photos/videos of the performance. My sincere apologies. However, be on the lookout for some "guerilla" video that was shot (shhh) and check out some photos I grabbed backstage (shhh-shhh.)
See you Friday at Pinback, needless to say, I can't wait...
Aloha, your friend, Chris.
Best regards,
