(On Friday, June 20th at Hollywood Park in the 2nd Race Michael Baze was thrown from his mount as they were racing into the far turn.)

I am all right.  I have a fracture in my neck, but it looks like it will heal quickly. I was also given a bone stimulator to speed up the bone growth.  The doctor said it looked like it would be about a four-week healing time.  It happened a little over two weeks ago so hopefully I'll be back riding soon, but it's not something I am going to do until it is healed and I get the doctor’s ok.

The accident happened when the horse I was riding fell and I went over her head.  I got up and rode back in the ambulance and felt ok.  When I got back to the jocks’ rooms my neck felt a little sore and we decided it would be best to go to the hospital to get checked out, just in case.  I'm glad I went!  This was my second serious fall.  In December of 2003 I went down in NY and shattered my nose and had a plate put in to fix my eye socket.  I was out for about 5 months and had 3 surgeries to fix my nose, but it never did heal straight.

I don't think about getting hurt.  It is something that you accept when you are around horses.  It is not a matter of if you are going to get hurt, it is when and how bad.
